ANZAC DAY – A DAY TO REMEMBER

Today in Australia is ANZAC Day – a day for all of us to honour and remember the bravery and sacrifice of the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). Although ANZAC Day started as a day of remembrance for those who fought and died in the First World War, it has come, with the passing of time, to be a commemoration of the dead of our two countries – our sons and daughters – who have fallen in all wars, on land or sea or in the air.

In remembering we are reminded that war is destructive, combat is devastating, and the human beings touched by it … are affected physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Thousands upon thousands of people left Australian and New Zealand shores, and were killed and incapacitated in the belief, and with the hope, that they offered their lives in the service of something greater than themselves.

They gave their tomorrow for our today. They paid the price in sacrifice so that we are now able to enjoy this coming new day – in peace and plenty and freedom.

THINK AND REMEMBER – FOR THEM, AND FOR YOU.

Lest we forget.

God Bless.
