The Power of Stories

QUOTE 9 – MAY 2013

Remember listening to bed time stories and getting lost in unknown worlds? Remember reading or hearing about the stories of high achievers and their trials and tribulations on the pathway to their success? And behind every successful athlete, there are always stories of hardship, tough times, coping with defeats, injuries and set backs. Sharing your story and telling stories is the best way to teach, persuade, and even understand yourself and create your dreams.

Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever.
An old Native American proverb

Telling ourselves stories provides structure and direction as we navigate life’s challenges and opportunities, and helps us interpret our goals and skills. Stories make sense of chaos; they organise our many divergent experiences into a coherent thread; they shape our entire reality.

Stories are state of the-heart-technology. They connect us to others.

I try to help people realize their dreams by using magic to tell stories that educate, move, and inspire.

David Copperfield (Magician)

Stories constitute the single most powerful weapon in a leader’s arsenal.
Dr. Howard Gardner, Harvard Graduate School of Education

Understand all the stories you tell yourself — of success or failure, about your work, sport, family, health; about what you want and what you are capable of achieving. Know you can change them and in turn create your own destiny.

Be Extraordinary.
