Living in Extraordinary Times

.
MARCH, 2020
It certainly is Extraordinary times. I hope you are all keeping safe and well, social distancing and staying strong wherever you are. I thought I would share a few tips with you today to make the most of this time at home. You have heard me talk about making great habits as a key to success, and it is during times like this of uncertainty that our habits can really ground us. When the world feels uncontrollable, we need to focus on what we can control.  Make great habits and they will make you.
.
.
1.   Start your day with a game plan
What can you to to be super productive today? It is so easy to get distracted at home and when you do nothing, your motivation and your happiness plummets. What can you get excited about today? What are your top 3 priorities today?
.
2.   Forget your fears and focus on faith
As Erma Bombreck once said, “Worry is like a rocking chair: It gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere.”  It is faith that fuels are through times of uncertainty.  Focus instead on your dreams and work on them daily.  “All our dreams come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Walt Disney
.
3.  Stay active
whether that is a walk, a run or some exercises around the house. Exercise is vital for both our mental and physical health and makes you feel great too. It also helps boost the immune system and naturally lowers your cortisol levels. After all, it is your health that is your real wealth. During times like these when so many are not even allowed to leave their homes and gyms being closed, there are plenty of suitable workouts on the internet so there are no excuses! A few people have already completed marathons on their balconies and in their backyards!
.
4.   Eat to support your immune system
As the coronavirus continues to spread across the world, having an optimally functioning immune system is more important than ever. Stick to a healthy, balanced diet filled with lots of colourful fruits and vegetables. Foods that have particular immune-boosting properties include: citrus fruits, (eg grapefruit, lemons, limes and oranges are loaded with vitamin C), garlic, berries, turmeric ,natural salt and raw honey. Stay away from processed foods and animal products as much as possible as these only weaken and compromise your immune system.
.
5.   Connect with your loved ones
Enjoy the extra special time with your family right now. It is truly a gift. Don’t forget to reach out to others and reconnect with old friends. Who can you call today and bring a smile to their face? The love of our family and friends is life’s greatest blessings.
.
6.   Sleep is just as important
as exercise and a healthy diet, and especially during these times when so many are stressed or anxious. Sleep regulates our immune cells and is the single most effective thing we can do to reset our brain and body health each day. If you aren’t well rested, you simply cannot perform at your best, so never compromise your sleep so you can stay sharp, focused and energised.  As I say to my athletes, sleep is for champions, so you can be Extraordinary!
.
7.   Declutter
Now is the perfect time to get rid of old things to make way for the new. Organisation isn’t about perfection. It’s about efficiency, reducing stress and clutter, saving time and money, and improving your overall quality of life.
With all this extra time at home, create your sanctuary. The three questions I ask myself when decluttering are: Do I love it? Do I use it? Does it make my heart sing? Put some music on and have fun decluttering.
.
8.   Learn something new
Listen to a podcast, a Ted Talk, or read a book. Take a course on line.  Invest in your education so you can thrive in the future.  As the great Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.”
.
9.   Relax, Meditate. Simply stop
All the answers we need are already within us, if you learn to stop and listen. It is in stillness, we receive.  There are no excuses now with all the extra time on your hands. You know the feeling when something is not right, or feels amazing, or needs your attention. It is your intuition. It speaks with a quiet voice, and if you listen, the potential is Extraordinary.  Listen and then act.
.
10.  Always be positive
In every crisis lies opportunity. Nothing is impossible. The word itself says I’m possible. When we are in a positive mindset, we come up with innovative, creative solutions. Dream your dreams and go for it.
.
11.  Enjoy the gift
The Universe has given us a wonderful gift of time out with no agendas but to be home. Create days you love. “Real luxury is not working like a maniac to take an expensive vacation – it is living a life you enjoy everyday.
.
12.  Live with gratitude
“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive—to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.”  Marcus Aurelius

Wishing you all Extraordinary health and create some great habits too!
