Wimbledon 2015

QUOTE 12, JULY 2015

Greetings from Wimbledon 2015. It’s a big weekend ahead with the Women’s and Men’s Finals. Serena is going for her sixth Championship and Federer is into his tenth Wimbledon Final and hoping to win his eighth title at The All England Club. Having been on the coaching team of a few Wimbledon Winners, it is certainly an exciting time with so much focus from all over the world on your every single move. The quotes this week are some inspirational messages from each of the finalists.

In the words of Serena Williams, Winner of 20 Grand Slams and hoping to make it 21 on Saturday……”There is something to say about believing in your dreams. And having the support and courage to go after them.
You can do anything you put your mind to. If I can, you can.”

Her opponent in the Women’s Final is Garbine Muguruza, who has been doing her own dreaming for long enough. At eight, she says with a laugh, she remembers in her sleep playing the 20-year-old Serena. It was weird, she reckoned, but the only thing she couldn’t recall was who won. Now we are about to find out.

All winners dream their dreams but they too have doubts and worries like we all do. The difference is they do not hold onto them and use them to motivate themselves to greater heights.
Just five years ago, Novak Djokovic said
“I was riddled with self doubt before gaining wings.”
On Sunday he will be defending his title against Federer and going for his third Wimbledon title. “It is an honour to play in the Wimbledon final – the most watched tennis match in the world. I’m just glad to reach another final. I will be ready for it.”

People often ask how you prepare for such big finals. The coach of Serena Williams,  Patrick Mouratoglou summed it up perfectly.
“You prepare exactly the same way……..Practice with intensity…..What you do in practice you do in matches…..Focus on the things you need to do to play your game and the things you need to do against that player.”

And finally in the words of the all time great, Roger Federer who is playing in his tenth Wimbledon Final……”I am a very positive thinker, and I think this is what helps me most in difficult moments.”

It is sure to be a weekend of Extraordinary tennis and wherever you are in the world, I hope you get to enjoy some of the magic of Wimbledon too.
