Oxford

WEEK 2 – APRIL 2010

Hi Ann,

I had an amazing day at Oxford University the other day. I was so inspired by their traditions of excellence and their distinctive college and tutorial system which underpins a culture of close academic supervision and careful personal support. Past students include 25 British Prime Ministers, more than 30 international leaders, 47 Nobel Prize winners, at least 6 Kings, 12 saints, over 50 Olympic medalists, and many other incredible notables. Here are a few quotes from some of their former graduates.

Finding the right work is like discovering your own soul in the world.
Sir Thomas More (English lawyer, scholar, author, statesman and a Saint)

If you aren’t in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?
T. S. Eliot (Poet, playwright and literary critic. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948)

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.
Oscar Wilde (Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic)

You might have to fight a battle more than once to win it.
Margaret Thatcher (Former British Prime Minister from 1979-1990)

They are always keeping ahead with leading World Authorities invited to the Campus. Here are some words of wisdom from one of those visitors who lectured there in 1931.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage — to move in the opposite direction.
Albert Einstein (Physicist, Philosopher and Noble Prize Winner for Physics in 1921)

Wishing you outstanding achievements in your life too.
