The Power of Questions

QUOTE 9 – MAY 2014

It was a real privilege and honour to spend Saturday evening on the grounds of the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) as it was transformed into a sparkling Pink Lady representing the 15,000 women and men expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year (in Australia). I stood on the field as one of the lucky survivors, and also to remember the women who have already lost their battle. I had three benign diagnoses and was just told I had calcification and it was nothing to worry about. When I kept asking questions to understand why I got calcification (thinking I needed to change something in my diet), not one doctor could actually answer my questions. I thus kept following up with specialists, with nutrition experts, with radiologists and other experts in their respective fields.  I was not prepared to give up until I had an answer. I really was not worried. I was super fit and felt great and there was no family history of breast cancer. As it turned out, it was breast cancer that was misdiagnosed by three doctors. I share this story with you because I am the lucky one. Because I kept asking questions, I did find out very early and was able to be successfully treated and not have to take any drugs and that is now almost 7 years ago. The power of questions is so incredibly important. Never stop asking questions if you do not understand something. They saved my life.

If you don’t get an answer, ask in a different way.
It is the quality of your questions that create the quality of your life.
.
As we are told in the Bible
Ask and you shall receive.
How often do you ask? Are you asking specifically for what you want or just being general?

.
For coaches reading this, it is really important you ask great quality questions to bring out the best in your players. Rather than tell the athlete what to do, ask questions so they learn to think for themselves. That alone will make an Extraordinary difference.

Even when things are not going well, ask:                                                                            What is great about this problem or what is not perfect yet?                                                What can I learn from this? How can I enjoy the process?

.

Tune in within – Listen to your own inner voice. We all get  intuitive feelings or gut instincts or some inner voice nudging you to do something. Pay attention. Let your intuition become your most trusted companion. It will lead you to your greatest victories.

And for all those who have been affected by Cancer, I want to share you with this beautiful poem.
.
WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO

It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit
 .
CANCER IS SO LIMITED

The same applies to anyone fighting life threatening illnesses.
Love and blessings to you all and don’t forget to ask great questions.
