WEEK 1 – MARCH 2006
As you read your quinnessential quotes this week I am on the road again, this time back in the USA, so I thought travel would be an appropriate word for the week. Travel has been such a large part of my life and for that I am truly grateful. The fabulous people you meet, the beautiful places you visit, the opportunities it brings, the enrichment, the education, the risks, the rewards, the great times and not so great too, the amazing experiences, and the fun, all make for a great journey.
People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering.
A child on a farm sees a plane fly by overhead and dreams of a faraway place. A traveller on the plane sees the farmhouse and dreams of home.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Goals give direction to our lives. We need to know who we are and where we want to go. But the trip itself, the steps we travel, offer us daily satisfaction moment by moment – fulfilment, if we but realize it. Too often we keep our sights on the goal’s completion, rather than the process – the day to day living that makes the completion possible.
Travel and change of place impart new vigour to the mind.
May you always find new roads to travel; new horizons to explore; new dreams to call your own.
