WEEK 3 OCTOBER 2010

Some compelling quotes this week come from the extraordinary rescue of the 33 men delivered to fresh air and freedom after the longest period of underground entrapment that human beings have ever endured.

“This is a miracle from God.”

Alberto Avalos, Uncle of the first miner to be rescued, Florencio Avalos

“I have been with God and I’ve been with the devil. I fought between the two.  I seized the hand of God, it was the best hand.  I always knew God would get us out of there.” Mario Sepulveda, the second miner to be pulled from the mine

Often something has to happen to you before you stop and think and understand that you only have one life, and then you think what you have to change. I have changed, I am a different man,” he said on exiting the mine.
Mario Gomez, at 63, is the oldest and most experienced of the miners, having first entered a mine shaft to work at age 12.

Luis Urzua, the last man who emerged to jubilant cheers, songs and applause embraced President Pinera and said:
“We have done what the entire world was waiting for. The 70 days that we fought so hard were not in vain. We had strength, we had spirit, we wanted to fight, we wanted to fight for our families, and that was the greatest thing.”

President Pinera said it had been a day Chileans would never forget.
“To see the miners coming from the bowel of the mountain to the surface and hug their wives, their daughters with so much emotion and joy has been something. It has proven the value of faith, the value of commitment, the value of teamwork.”

Live with Faith, Hope and Love.  Miracles do exist.
Be grateful for how lucky we really are.

Love and blessings
