Pope John Paul II was a brilliant man, an intellectual who had earned two doctorates by the age of 36, and became a professor of ethics at the Catholic University in Lublin. When he was invested in 1978, he became the first Polish pope in the Church’s history – and the first non Italian pope in 455 years. The great thrust of John Paul II’s life as Pope was the elevation and promotion of human rights throughout the world. Being fluent in 8 languages and adept in 13 languages, he reached millions of people through his masses in his travels to more than125 foreign countries, and his audiences with the world’s major leaders. Pope John Paul II was truly a unique and remarkable leader, and a model of Christian principle, kind, humble, generous and forgiving. His passionate commitment to spread the word of God continued until his death in 2005.

Love is never defeated.
Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.
Peace is not the absence of war. Like a cathedral, peace must be constructed patiently and with unshakeable faith.
