That is not something you normally hear! We are always told to keep learning. But what should you unlearn? To be our best in sport and business, you need to look at what you need to change. Are you still operating on old beliefs or systems, old routines, or assumptions? Are you pushing the boundaries of what is accepted as possible? Are you constantly reviewing and evaluating the way you do things? Adult education experts estimate that up to 40% of what tertiary students are learning will be obsolete a decade from now when they will be working in jobs that have yet to be created. Indeed, the top 10 most in-demand jobs today didn’t even exist 10 years ago. To say that we live in a changing world understates the speed of both the pace and the scope of ongoing change. To succeed today, we must constantly learn and unlearn.

The illiterate of the twenty-first century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.
Alvin Toffler (American writer and futurist, celebrated author of “Future Shock”)

The most important lessons lay not in what I needed to learn, but in what I first needed to unlearn.
Jim Collins (American business consultant and best selling author)

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.

To attain knowledge, add things every day.
To attain wisdom, remove things everyday.

Lao Tzu (Chinese philosopher and best known as the author of the Tao Te Ching)

Learning agility is the name of the game. Where the rules are changing fast, your ability to be agile in letting go of old rules and learning new ones is increasingly important. Learning agility is the key to unlocking your change proficiency and succeeding in an uncertain, unpredictable and constantly evolving environment, both personally and professionally.
Margie Warrell (Best selling author of Stop Playing Safe and Find your Courage)

And for the athletes reading this, unlearn and release all those negative thoughts, doubts and fears that hold you back! Instead, focus on the extraordinary strength that lies within you.
Ann Quinn

Challenge yourself to unlearn something and be all you can be.
